VISTEC Scholarship 2027 — Fully Funded MSc & PhD in Thailand
Most scholarships make you compete twice: once for admission and once for funding. VISTEC, the Vidyasirimedhi Institute of Science and Technology in Thailand, doesn’t. Every student admitted to its MSc and PhD programmes receives a full scholarship, worth up to THB 5 million. It includes waived university fees, a monthly stipend of up to THB 20,000, a research budget of up to THB 500,000, guaranteed on-campus housing and, for every PhD student, THB 1 million to spend up to a year researching at a leading lab abroad. There’s no bond after graduation. Admission for 2027 is open from 1 October 2026 to 15 February 2027, with an interview and written exam on 27 February 2027. This guide explains the four schools, how to get admitted, and what Pakistani applicants should know before applying.

About VISTEC
VISTEC is a research-only graduate institute founded with support from Thailand’s national energy company PTT and its partners. It sits in Wangchan Valley, Rayong, inside the Eastern Economic Corridor of Innovation (EECi), Thailand’s hub for research, technology and industry. It has no undergraduates. It’s a small, well-funded institute with modern labs, a central Frontier Research Center (FRC) for advanced equipment, and a strong focus on international publishing.
How it compares: at many Thai universities, international students apply for a few separate, competitive scholarships. At Chulalongkorn, for example, the main international award pays about THB 16,000 a month to a limited number of students. At VISTEC, funding comes automatically with admission, and the stipend, research budget and PhD year abroad are more generous. The trade-off is location: VISTEC is a residential campus about 2–2.5 hours from Bangkok, not a city university.
🔬 The Four Schools
| School | Typical Backgrounds Accepted |
|---|---|
| Molecular Science and Engineering (MSE) | Materials science, chemical engineering, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, polymer, ceramic, metallurgical or electrical engineering |
| Energy Science and Engineering (ESE) | The same as MSE: materials, chemical engineering, sciences, polymer, ceramic, metallurgical, electrical engineering and related fields |
| Biomolecular Science and Engineering (BSE) | Chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology, biology, physics; chemical, biological, environmental or mechanical engineering; pharmacy, medical technology |
| Information Science and Technology (IST) | Computer science, physics, mathematics; computer, mechanical or electrical engineering; IT/ICT (AI, robotics, data) |
Programme tracks (IST example): M.Eng in 2 years (research-oriented, or research plus coursework); PhD in 3 years (if you have a master’s) or 5 years (direct from a bachelor’s), each in a research-only or research-plus-coursework version. Other schools follow a similar pattern (verify on official website). Final-year bachelor’s and master’s students can apply.

VISTEC offers something unusual even by global standards: guaranteed full funding for every admitted student, a personal research budget most PhD students in Asia never see, and a funded year at a top lab abroad, which can open doors to postdocs in Europe, Japan or the US. Its links to PTT and Thailand’s EECi industrial corridor also create routes into R&D jobs in energy, materials, biotech and AI.
