Xiamen University Scholarships 2027 — CSC & Fujian Guide
Xiamen University (XMU) is one of China’s “Double First-Class” universities. Its seaside campus in Fujian province is often called one of the most beautiful in Asia. For the 2027 intake, international students can fund their studies through four routes: XMU’s own New International Students Scholarship (official dates 1 December 2026 – 30 April 2027), the Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC) Type B (XMU agency number 10384), CSC Type A through your home government (HEC in Pakistan), and the Fujian Provincial Government Scholarship. The best awards cover full tuition plus a monthly stipend of up to RMB 3,500. One rule applies to every route: you must be admitted to XMU before your scholarship application is considered. This guide compares all four, explains which suits Pakistani students, and sets out a timeline.

About Xiamen University
Founded in 1921, Xiamen University is a national key university under China’s “Double First-Class” initiative. It has strong programmes in economics, management, chemistry, marine sciences, engineering, computer science and Chinese studies, and it offers English-taught master’s and PhD programmes alongside Chinese-taught ones. XMU also has an overseas branch campus in Malaysia. Xiamen itself is a clean, coastal and relatively affordable city.
How XMU funding works: unlike universities where the scholarship and admission are one application, XMU uses a two-stage process. You apply for admission through XMU’s online system and, once admitted, you’re considered for the scholarship route(s) you’ve applied for. For CSC, you also complete the CSC portal.
How it compares: the CSC stipend at XMU is the same national rate as at CUP Beijing (RMB 3,000 for master’s, RMB 3,500 for PhD). XMU adds its own scholarship with three tiers and the Fujian provincial award, which gives you more chances than a CSC-only university.
💰 The Four Scholarship Routes Compared
| Route | Coverage | Age Limits | Period | Language |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| XMU New International Students Scholarship | 1st class: tuition + RMB 2,500 / 3,000 / 3,500 a month · 2nd class: tuition · 3rd class: 50% of tuition | Bachelor’s <25 · Master’s <40 · PhD <45 | 1 December 2026 – 30 April 2027 ✅ | Programme requirements |
| CSC Type B (agency 10384) | Tuition + dorm (or subsidy) + RMB 2,500 / 3,000 / 3,500 a month + insurance (RMB 800 a year) | Bachelor’s <25 · Master’s <35 · PhD <40 | About 1 February – 15 April 2027 (expected) | Programme requirements |
| CSC Type A (through HEC / the embassy) | Same as CSC Type B | Same as CSC | About January–April 2027 (HEC sets the deadline) | Programme requirements |
| Fujian Provincial Government Scholarship | RMB 30,000 / 40,000 / 50,000 a year, 1 year (renewable for top candidates) | Bachelor’s <30 · Master’s <35 · PhD <40 | About 1 December 2026 – 10 April 2027 (expected) | HSK 3 or above |
Notes: age limits apply as of 1 September of the academic year. For Fujian, XMU says recipients may need to pay tuition first and receive the scholarship around the end of the year, and nominees who aren’t approved pay tuition as self-funded students. Whether the Fujian amount covers tuition, living costs or both isn’t stated (verify on official website).
💵 Stipend Rates (CSC and XMU 1st Class)
- ✅ Bachelor’s: RMB 2,500 a month (roughly PKR 95,000–1 lakh)
- ✅ Master’s: RMB 3,000 a month (roughly PKR 1.1–1.2 lakh)
- ✅ PhD: RMB 3,500 a month (roughly PKR 1.3–1.4 lakh)
- ✅ CSC extras: free dormitory (or an accommodation subsidy) and medical insurance (RMB 800 a year)
- ✅ Tuition waived on all CSC awards and on XMU 1st- and 2nd-class awards
Living costs: Xiamen is cheaper than Beijing or Shanghai, so a master’s or PhD stipend with a free dorm covers food, transport and basics comfortably (check current rates).
📋 Eligibility (All Routes)
- Non-Chinese citizen in good health
- Admitted to an XMU degree programme: scholarship applications are only considered after admission
- Degree: a high school diploma (bachelor’s), a bachelor’s (master’s) or a master’s (PhD)
- Age: see the route table above (the XMU scholarship allows up to 40 for master’s and 45 for PhD)
- Language: meet your programme’s requirement (English-taught or Chinese-taught). Fujian needs HSK 3 or above. For CSC Type A, students who need remedial Chinese must have HSK 3 or 4 at 180 or above, depending on the field
🇵🇰 Pakistani students: eligible. The most practical routes are the XMU New International Students Scholarship and CSC (Type B, or Type A through HEC) with an English-taught master’s or PhD. Skip Fujian unless you already have HSK 3. Good fits include economics, finance, management, chemistry, marine science, computer science and engineering. Most Pakistani universities can issue an English-medium instruction letter, which many Chinese universities accept for English programmes (confirm on the programme page).
✅ Apply if you…
- Have a strong BS or MS and fit an XMU English-taught programme
- Can apply for admission early (December–January)
- Are within the age limits for your chosen route
- Can get a supervisor’s acceptance letter (for a PhD, this helps a lot)
- Want the option of applying to both CSC and XMU scholarships
❌ Be careful if you…
- Plan to rely on Fujian without HSK 3
- Are over 35 (master’s) or 40 (PhD) and only target CSC (the XMU scholarship allows older applicants)
- Wait until April to apply for admission
- Need guaranteed full funding (the XMU 2nd and 3rd classes cover tuition only or 50%)
- Can’t get a police certificate or medical form in time (often needed for the visa or CSC)
📄 What You’ll Need (typical)
- The XMU online application for your degree programme (application.xmu.edu.cn)
- The scholarship application form (XMU or Fujian), completed in Chinese or English, signed and scanned. No paper documents are mailed
- For CSC: the CSC online application (studyinchina.csc.edu.cn), choosing Type B and agency 10384, then printing and signing the CSC form
- Degree certificates and transcripts (notarised or attested as required)
- Study plan or research proposal and recommendation letters (as your programme requires)
- Passport, an English or HSK certificate, and for CSC and the visa, a Foreigner Physical Examination Form and a non-criminal record certificate (verify on official website)
Pakistan notes: get degrees HEC-attested (and notarised if asked), a police character certificate from your district police or Khidmat Markaz, and the medical form completed at a recognised hospital. For CSC Type A, watch for HEC’s Chinese Government Scholarship announcement (usually January–February).
🪜 Step-by-Step: How to Apply
- Choose your programme (master’s or PhD guides on admissions.xmu.edu.cn). Note whether it’s taught in English or Chinese.
- PhD applicants: email 2–3 XMU professors in your field for a supervisor acceptance letter (October–December).
- Prepare your documents now: HEC attestation, police certificate, medical form, recommendations and a study plan.
- Apply for admission on the XMU application portal from 1 December 2026.
- XMU scholarship: upload the signed XMU scholarship form in the same portal, by 30 April 2027.
- CSC Type B: when the CSC portal opens (expected 1 February 2027), apply at studyinchina.csc.edu.cn with agency 10384, then upload the printed and signed CSC form.
- CSC Type A: apply through HEC / the Chinese Embassy by their deadline.

🌍 Why Choose Xiamen University
XMU combines a top-tier national ranking with a calm, coastal city and a strong international community. Its economics and management schools are among China’s best, and its chemistry and marine sciences are internationally known. With CPEC deepening Pakistan-China ties, a funded XMU degree, plus some Mandarin, can open doors to Chinese companies, CPEC projects and academic careers in both countries.
