VinUniversity Scholarships 2027–28: Full Ride Bachelor’s in Vietnam
VinUniversity (VinUni), the private university in Hanoi founded by Vingroup, has announced its scholarship programme for the 2027–2028 academic year. Every student who enrols between 2025 and 2030 receives a 35% tuition subsidy for the whole degree. On top of that, merit scholarships cover 50% to 100% of tuition, and the top award, the President’s Excellence Scholarship, also pays living expenses. Extra 5% and 10% awards can be added, and students who still can’t afford the fees can apply for financial aid of up to 100% of tuition.
This guide is for Pakistani and other international students finishing FSc, ICS, A-Levels or an equivalent qualification. It explains what each scholarship really pays, what you would still pay at each level, the English rules, how the two-round selection works, and how to keep your scholarship once you are there. Everything comes from VinUni’s official admissions pages. Where VinUni hasn’t published a detail for international or Pakistani applicants, we say so.

About VinUniversity
VinUniversity is a private, not-for-profit university in Hanoi, founded by Vingroup, Vietnam’s largest private conglomerate. It was set up with academic partners including Cornell University and the University of Pennsylvania, and teaches its degree programmes in English. Classes are small and the campus is in the Vinhomes Ocean Park area of Gia Lam, Hanoi.
For 2027–28 VinUni is admitting bachelor’s students to four colleges:
- College of Business and Management: Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Finance and Banking
- College of Engineering and Computer Science: Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science
- College of Health Sciences: Medical Doctor (MD) programme, Bachelor of Nursing
- College of Arts and Sciences: Multimedia Communication, Psychology, Economics
VinUniversity Scholarships 2027–28: Every Level Explained
VinUni’s support comes in four layers. You don’t apply for each one separately: admitted students are considered for merit scholarships through the normal application.
- ✅ Tuition Subsidy (35%): every student enrolling from 2025 to 2030, for the full degree
- 🏆 President’s Excellence Scholarship: 100% of tuition plus living expenses. VinUni’s FAQ says this includes accommodation and meals.
- 🥇 Provost’s Merit Scholarship: 100% of tuition
- 🥈 Dean’s Distinction Scholarship: 80% or 90% of tuition
- 🥉 Discipline’s Honor Scholarship: 50%, 60% or 70% of tuition, depending on the programme
- ➕ Special Academic Scholarship: extra 5% for bachelor’s programmes (the FAQ names Nursing, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering)
- ➕ WIT (Women in Tech) Scholarship: extra 5% for female applicants in technology and science
- ➕ Dean Choi Grant by Soosan: extra 10%, funded by Soosan Group, using the donor’s own selection criteria
- 🤝 Financial Aid: for admitted students in financial difficulty, on top of scholarships, up to 100% of tuition in total
Merit scholarships are judged on aspiration, intellect and resilience. High marks matter, but VinUni also looks for ambition, leadership and how you have handled challenges.
One award is not open to Pakistanis: the “Exclusive Scholarship for Filipino Talents” (up to a full ride plus USD 1,500 for living expenses) is only for applicants from the Philippines. The Vingroup employee and Vinschool awards are also restricted.
What Will You Actually Pay? Tuition After Scholarships
VinUni lists tuition at about 815,850,000 VND (about USD 35,000) a year for all majors and 349,650,000 VND (about USD 15,000) a year for Nursing. After the 35% subsidy, VinUni says students pay about 530 million VND a year (other programmes) or about 227 million VND a year (Nursing), before any merit scholarship.
VinUni’s official pages don’t spell out exactly how the 35% subsidy combines with a merit percentage. For example, it isn’t clear whether a 70% scholarship means you pay 30% of listed tuition, or 70% is taken off the already-reduced fee. Ask VinUni to confirm your exact yearly fee in writing before you accept an offer (verify on official website).
| Scholarship level | Tuition covered | Living costs |
|---|---|---|
| President’s Excellence | 100% | ✅ Covered |
| Provost’s Merit | 100% | ❌ You pay |
| Dean’s Distinction | 80% or 90% | ❌ You pay |
| Discipline’s Honor | 50%, 60% or 70% | ❌ You pay |
| No merit award | 35% subsidy only (~530m VND/year left to pay) | ❌ You pay |
Tuition is paid twice a year, at the start of the Fall and Spring semesters, by Visa card at VinUni’s finance office or by online bank transfer through VinUni’s Salesforce portal.
Unless you win the President’s Excellence Scholarship, you will need money for accommodation, food, flights, a Vietnamese student visa and health insurance. VinUni has on-campus dormitories; check the current dorm fee on VinUni’s Residence Life page (verify on official website).
Keeping Your Scholarship for Four Years
VinUni scholarships last for the whole degree, not just the first year, as long as you meet the retention rules:
- GPA 2.5 or above for scholarships of 50% to 90%
- GPA 3.2 or above for 100% and full scholarships
- No serious breaches of university rules
If you miss the requirement, you don’t lose everything: the scholarship drops by one tier (10%), for example from 100% to 90%. If your results improve the following year, you get the original level back. VinUni says only about 2% of students have their scholarships reduced.
Your entry scholarship can’t be upgraded later. If you start with 80%, you stay on 80%. That makes your application and interview the most important moment financially. During your studies you can still compete for one-off awards, such as the President’s Scholarship (80 million VND), Provost’s Scholarship (60 million VND), Dean’s Scholarship (40 million VND) and Change Maker awards.
English Requirements for Pakistani Students
VinUni asks for IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0, or an equivalent score on TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic, Cambridge English or VSTEP. Check the exact equivalent scores on VinUni’s English Proficiency FAQ.
- A-Level and IB students: VinUni may exempt students from full-time international programmes, such as A-Level or IB, who studied in English for at least two years (verify on official website).
- FSc, ICS and Matric students: plan to take IELTS or an accepted alternative. VinUni hasn’t published an exemption for the Pakistani board system.
- English Pathway: VinUni’s English Pathway programme ended in 2026, so you can’t count on joining with a lower score and improving on campus.
SAT and ACT are not required, but VinUni says high scores are an advantage when it considers scholarships.
✅ Who Should Apply
- Students finishing FSc, ICS, A-Levels or IB in 2027 (or recent graduates)
- Strong students with leadership, projects or community work
- Students who want an English-taught degree in a fast-growing Asian economy
- Female students in science and tech (extra 5% WIT award)
- Students who can cover living costs, or are aiming for the top award
❌ Who Should Think Twice
- Master’s or PhD applicants (this page is for bachelor’s degrees)
- Students who need guaranteed fully funded living costs
- Students who can’t reach IELTS 6.5 (no English Pathway now)
- MD applicants not ready to learn Vietnamese (see below)
Documents You Need
VinUni’s first-year application asks for:
- Personal information
- A one-page CV
- One short-answer essay
- Grades for years 10 to 12. For Pakistani students this normally means Matric (SSC) and FSc/ICS Part I and Part II, or O- and A-Level results. Ask VinUni how it reads Pakistani board results (verify on official website).
- Non-academic achievements: competitions, clubs, volunteering, projects
- Two teacher references
- An English test result (or proof of exemption)
If you are admitted, you’ll need notarised copies of your documents when you register, so get Matric and Intermediate certificates attested early.
Medical Doctor (MD) Programme: Extra Rules for International Students
Medicine has extra requirements for international students:
- Vietnamese language: level A2 when you enrol, rising to B1/B2 by Year 4, because clinical training involves Vietnamese patients
- Science subjects: Biology and Chemistry plus one more science subject
Pakistani pre-medical students should check these requirements carefully, and also check whether a VinUni MD would be recognised by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council if you plan to practise at home (verify on official website).
How the Selection Works
VinUni takes a holistic approach. It doesn’t just rank marks. It looks for students who show Ability, Aspiration, Creativity and Commitment. The process has three stages:
- Pre-screening: VinUni checks your application is complete and that you meet the basic requirements.
- Round 1, application review: the Admissions Committee assesses your grades, essay, CV, achievements and references online.
- Round 2, interview: shortlisted students are invited to an interview. International applicants should ask whether it can be held online (verify on official website). At this stage you pay the 2,000,000 VND (about USD 75) application fee, unless you qualify for the Early Round waiver.
Your admission decision comes with any merit scholarship you have been awarded. If the scholarship isn’t enough, you can then apply for financial aid.
How to Apply: Step by Step
- Choose your programme from the 2027–28 list above.
- Book IELTS (or an accepted alternative) now. You want your score well before your chosen round closes.
- Register for a VinUni Open Day or online event. If you apply in the Early Round, attending can get the application fee waived.
- Prepare your documents: transcripts for years 10–12, a one-page CV, your essay and two teacher references.
- Apply online through the VinUni applicant portal, linked from the official key-dates page.
- Prepare for the interview. Be ready to talk about your goals, why VinUni and Vietnam, and your achievements outside class.
- Read your offer carefully. Ask VinUni to confirm your exact yearly fee after all scholarships and subsidies, and plan your living costs.
📅 Key Dates 2027–28
| Round | Opens | Closes |
|---|---|---|
| Early Admission | 15 October 2026 | 15 January 2027 |
| Regular Admission | 15 February 2027 | 15 May 2027 |
| Rolling Round | 15 June 2027 | 15 August 2027 |
Vietnam is two hours ahead of Pakistan. VinUni doesn’t give a closing time on the key-dates page, so submit at least a day early (verify on official website).
Tips to Win a Higher Scholarship
- Apply in the Early Round. VinUni explicitly encourages early applications to secure scholarships, and your entry scholarship can never be upgraded.
- Show aspiration and resilience in your essay. Write about a real problem you worked on, a setback you overcame or what you want to build. Avoid general praise of VinUni.
- Back up your achievements. Olympiads, science fairs, coding projects, debating, volunteering and family responsibilities all count.
- Choose referees who know you well. A specific, detailed letter is worth more than a famous name.
- Consider SAT. It isn’t required, but VinUni says a high score helps.
- Women in science and technology: mention your interest clearly so you are considered for the WIT award.
Gradualin Editor’s Note: VinUni is a serious option for Pakistani students who want an English-taught, internationally connected degree in Asia, and the four-year scholarship with forgiving retention rules is a real strength. Be realistic, though: only the President’s Excellence Scholarship covers living costs, and VinUni hasn’t published separate 2027–28 terms for Pakistani applicants. Older pages on VinUni’s site describe different international awards from 2021, so rely only on the current admissions pages. Email admission@vinuni.edu.vn or WhatsApp +84 98 100 8189 to confirm your fees and how your board results will be assessed before you commit.
