🎓 Eligibility Criteria

Schwarzman Scholars is genuinely open to all nationalities. There are no country restrictions. Before applying, confirm all of the following:

Undergraduate degree — you must hold one, or be on track to complete all requirements before August 1, 2027. There is no required field of study — any undergraduate major is welcome.
Age: 18 to 28 years old as of August 1, 2027. Candidates must be at least 18 but not yet 29 on that date.
English language proficiency — all teaching is in English. If English is not your native language and you did not study for at least two years at an undergraduate institution where English was the primary language of instruction, you must submit an official test score. Accepted tests and minimum scores:

- IELTS: minimum score 7.0

🎓 Programme Structure and Curriculum

This is not a conventional Master’s. The Schwarzman Scholars curriculum sits on three pillars: China, Leadership, and Global Affairs — and every part of the year-long experience feeds into one or more of these.

Core Curriculum gives every scholar the knowledge base to understand China’s role in the global economy and international affairs, regardless of their prior background.

Elective Courses allow you to tailor the programme toward your own career goals. Whether your focus is international law, technology, business, public policy, or the environment — the electives flex around you.

The Capstone is a required research paper, case study, or policy analysis completed either individually or as a group. Group capstone projects work with real client organisations on globally relevant topics.

The Deep Dive is one of the most distinctive elements of the entire programme — a graded, two-credit intensive field course involving a week-long immersive trip to a region of China. Scholars visit leading companies, government agencies, cultural sites, and rural areas. Past Deep Dives have explored topics including rural revitalization, industrial transformation, and sustainable development across provinces that most outsiders never see.

Leadership Courses and Workshops — Scholars choose from a range of leadership-focused courses taught by practitioners from across industries. Schwarzman Scholars also partners with The Rhodes Trust to provide an orientation leadership workshop.

The application is completed and submitted entirely online. There are no paper submissions. Required materials for the global (U.S. and International) application:

Leadership Essay — 750 words; the single most important piece of writing in your application
